The micro layout in the video was a kids Thomas Train set. I built a small micro layout and converted it to dead rail using a RC car 2:4 GHz system. I painted the cars and engine then added some detail items I had from my scrap box. I took my time and used easy techniques I had used in the construction of my home layout. I added an On30 Forney cab after removing the original Thomas one and added the O scale engineer. I re-engineered the pistol transmitter controller to allow a hands free operation.
The story started when I acquired the train from a young 8 or 9 year old lad who was moving to HO scale and was selling off his Thomas Trains to get the necessary capital to start the next stage of his model railroading journey. Later I went by his selling table and saw the new items he had purchased. I had the pleasure of helping him test the new diesel and showed him how to improve its performance. I will be showing this layout at the New Tracks table at the February Great Scale Train Show at Timonium, Maryland.
